Hussaan hits half-century in Horspath win

29 Apr 2024

Hussaan Ahmad compiled a half-century as Horspath stepped up their pre-season preparations with a six-wicket win over Cookham Dean in a friendly at a chilly Recreation Ground on Saturday.
The groundstaff again pulled out all the stops to get the game on following overnight rain, which led to a delayed start,
And Ahmad rewarded their efforts by steering the hosts to victory after the Thames Valley League Division 1 visitors chose to bat and were bowled out for 142.
He retired unbeaten on 50 from 53 balls with seven fours as Horspath reached 144-4 with 9.2 overs to spare, building on an opening stand of 49 between Tom Coleman (33) and Tyrone Eyles (29).
Earlier, Horspath's bowlers had exploited seamer-friendly conditions with Erasmus Du Toit (3-39) and new recruit Nishi Ranasinghe (1-35) making early inroads into the Cookham batting.
Spinners Joval Calix (2-11) and another newcomer, Viv Narayan (2-14), then got among the wickets, and the visitors were indebted for their final total to Lashvein Srisankar, who made an unbeaten 53 from 77 deliveries.
He hit seven fours and two sixes, sharing in a last-wicket stand of 38 with Jayalilare.
Meanwhile, a huge overnight deluge led to the cancellation of Horspath's Voneus Village Cup first-round tie at home to Minster Lovell on Sunday.
The match will now be played at the Recreation Ground on Sunday, May 5.
Players and officials will make their way to the wicket to observe a minute's silence in memory of Max Eason just before the scheduled start time of 1pm (weather permitting). All members are invited to join the teams on the square to take part if they wish to.
